Tech Prep Program

Tech Prep is funded though the Carl D. Perkins Career Technical Education Improvement Act (Perkins IV), and is a significant innovation in the education reform movement in the United States.

Tech Prep education is an articulated, planned sequence of study beginning in high school, and extending through at least two years of postsecondary education or an apprenticeship program. Programs can continue up to the Baccalaureate degree.

Emphasizing contextual learning and career pathways, Tech Prep is an important school-to-work transition strategy, helping all students make the connection between school and employment.

The California Perkins IV Tech-Prep Secondary to Postsecondary CTE Linkage Accountability Handbook is designed to facilitate target negotiations for each Tech-Prep performance indicator between the Perkins IV Tech-Prep Consortium and the Chancellor’s Office – Career Technical Education unit. The handbook also includes the measure specification, steps for evaluating subsequent year performance targets and the forms to complete when consortia do not meet negotiated minimum performance levels. Each performance year includes a cycle of: negotiating targets, evaluating performance, and submitting annual reports.
